For many years people have proclaimed that "next year
is going to be the year of the mobile". And they repeated the same
statement year after year. This has been going on for about ten years. Well, I'm
delighted to say they're finally right. 2013 is the year of the mobile.
For the Meningitis Trust, we started our exploration into mobile two years ago. The changes we've made have almost doubled traffic. And through that extended reach we're saving more lives and helping achieve our charitable purpose.
But I want to correct people who say that mobile has changed everything. They're wrong. It's the people in the street with their iPhones, HTCs and Samsungs that have driven the change. Mobile data and mobile tech has been around since the late 90s. It's only now connection speeds, the technology and the design standards are high enough to make it a pleasant experience for the punter.
And wow what an impact it's had. Three years ago 12% of our web visitors viewed through a mobile device. Last month it was 57%. Today, all Meningitis Trust activity needs to be designed for mobile.
